A month....

Lucy baby is a month old.  Where did time go?!  I LOVE LOVE this girl.  Even when she's cranky, I just can't help but think about how precious she is.  She's sleeping in her bed right now (which doesn't happen too often), so I thought I would jot down a few things about her at one month:

-Her umbilical cord is still attached.  I seriously started to doubt it was ever going to come off, but it has started to make some progress!  Hallelujah.  I can't wait to give this sweet baby real baths.
-She LOVES to be held.  She can sleep for hours in someone's arms, but as soon as you set her in her bed (no matter how tightly you swaddle her) she wakes up within five minutes.  It makes it difficult to get things done, but at the same time, I don't mind too much.  She's so so sweet when she's sleeping.
-Just like she was in the womb, this girl is a mover.  I mean, talk about wiggly   Her legs and arms love to go crazy, which sometimes makes diaper changing an adventure.  I love it.  It makes me laugh every time.  (She manages to wake herself up sometimes by kicking her swaddled blankets off....silly baby.)
-She loves her hands.  From day one, she has loved her hands to be up by her face.  We think that is how she was in utero....I tore pretty badly when I delivered her and my midwife told me it is because after her head came out, she punched her hands out with her shoulders. She also loves eating her hands.
-Her hands and feet are a bit on the larger size.  She fits 6 month socks....sorry baby...I gave you those genes....I'm a size 9...no petite feet over here.
-I wish I knew her weight (no more appointments until 2 months?!  Can't we have one every week?!).  I think she is over 9 pounds by now....
-She is so strong!  She's always been good at lifting her head, but now she can hold it up for quite a while.  When she's hangry (angry because she's hungry) she launches herself with either her legs or arms to try to find food.  It's quite impressive, funny, and slightly terrifying at the same time.
-She quite considerate sometimes....she will give us a warning "Ka" a few times to let us know that she's thinking about winding up to scream.  If we catch it in time, we can avoid the meltdown.
-She is still quite unpredictable.   Her eating and sleeping patterns are all over the place.  Some day we'll have a schedule...some day.
-Her eyes are big and beautiful.  And when she is awake, they are opened wide.  It's adorable and hilarious.
-This baby is seriously loved.  She has so many relatives and friends who just adore her.  (I mean, she's so cute, who wouldn't?!  Haha.)

Something I didn't realize was how extremely terrifying (and wonderful) it is to have a newborn.  (What?!  You mean I am responsible for keeping this tiny human alive?!)  It is so easy to worry about her.  In general, I am a fairly relaxed and calm person.  However, I find myself checking to make sure she is breathing, counting her bowel movements, and stressing on whether or not she is too hot.  Oh goodness.  As time goes on and I am starting to get the hang of this, I am starting to worry less.  I just love her so much and I want to be the best mom for her.  I can't believe how much my life has changed in a month.  I love it.
